maternal grandmother was born Genendla Borenstein in Plock Poland. A
query of my family name, Topas, yielded this site. Any

I'm
sory about my english. I don't known to write in english. I would
like known my origin. My father speak to me in portugues. (I am
brasilian woman 47 years old.) Whem I was child my father says me
that her father don't speaked portugues and his name was Gabish or
Gavish. Je croire qui será mieux vous écrire en
français (je ne l'écris pas mieux mais c'est plus
facile). Malgré mon père se disait athé et même
m'interdisait d'y aller a l'église catholique avac mes amis,
il m'a donnée une éducation bien semblable à
celle des juives. J 'aimerai savoire d'ou nous sommes venu. Mon père
(José Pereira de Souza) est mort avant que je puise le posée
cette question. Il ne parlait pas bien parsce qu'il a eu une
hemorragie au cerveaux. Il est né en 1915 dans une petit
vilage - 400 habitants et son père est mort quand il avait 11
ans. Il m'a racconté aussi que quand il etait petit un certain
monsieur lui aurait dit que personne conaissait sont grand-père
parsce que il est arrivé tout seule avec un bebé dans
le bras (le père de mon père)et qu'il ne parlait pas
portugais et que au début il ont vécu dans une grote
pas très loin de la ville. Le père de mon père
(Joachim Alphosus)se mariè alors avec une jeune fille vénue
de loin (la mère de mon père - Maria Salomé de
Souza). C'est étrange parsce que c'est habitud de changer de
nom. Differement des brésilien mon père a le nom come
les européns (au Brèsil, le nom du père c'est le
dernèr). Mon père aussi n'a pas mis nos noms (mes
frères et soeurs) pareil. Il nous disait que c'est parsce que
si quelque chose arrivait a un entre mous, les autres ne serriont pas
puni. Une soeur s'appelle aussi Maria Salomé de Souza (homage
a ma grant mère déjá morte), moi Pereira do
Socorro; l'autre soeur Pereira de Souza (comme lui); l'autre Pereira
dos Santos. Il a été un homme très correct, très
droit. N'a jamais eu un seul énemi. Nous encentivé
toujours a étudier (selon lui, l'unique chose que personne
peut nous enlévé). Il a étudié seulement
jusque a l'école primaire (son pére est partie pour
essayer se traité avec des médécin inglais (un
ville loin qui avait une connu mine d'or ìci au Brèsil)et
sa mère a tout dépenser pour essayer de le sauver. Nous
(ses enfants) sommes allés tous, jusqu'a l'université.
Il ya loin temps je vus cette page. Mais je n'avais pas courage de
vous écrire. Je vous racconter toute cette histoire parsce que
c'est ne pas agréable de ne pas savoire sur soit même.
Je suis marrié et j'aimerais que mon fils (10 ans) puisse
savoir plus. J'aimerais savoire porquoi je lui donne cette éducation
et au même temps je né me sens pas a l'alaise pour
frequenté une sinagoge. Merci si vous pouvez me dire quelque
chose. Ma mère ne dit que ne peut pas nous aider. Ma soeurs
plus agée dit que c'est mieux desister de chercher l'origine
de la famille de notre père. Et nous, nous ne parlons plus de
ça. Merci d'avoir lu.

Very interesting what I could decipher. I am very poor in other languages. Our grandparents, Borntein, came to the USA through Boston around the 1880's. My father is the eight'th of nine and was born 1902 here in this small western town. Grandmother was Swedish, my mother is Italian. So as you can see we are very mixed.i.e. American.
