Belchatow, Lodz (Poland): general information
Belchatów An area which is part of the South Mazovian Heights, lies Belchatów. Located 23 km west of Piotrków Trybunalski and 50 km south of the £ód conurbation, the town is the River Rakówka, a right-hand tributary of the Widawka. The boundary between the Belchatów Uplands and the Szczerców Valley contains rich resources of brown coal; located at a depth of 100-200 metres, the supply is estimated at over 2 billion tons. The average annual precipitation in Be³chatów and its nearest vicinity does not exceed 600 mm, while snow covers this region for approximately 50 days, depending on the year. The mean temperature in January is 2.5 degrees
Celsius, while the average temperature in July is 18 degrees Celsius.
Even though the regions climatic are conducive to farming, most of the land,
predominantly falling into the 5th or 6th category, is covered with forests. The region abounds in mushrooms and berries, so Be³chatów citizens enjoy relaxation in this area at weekends. According to the administrative division of Poland introduced in 1975, Be³chatów belongs to the Province of Piotrków Trybunalski.
